Taxi owner killed in Benoni CBD

No one has been arrested and the police are appealing for information from the community that might assist to arrest the suspect.

A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened at Benoni SAPS after a taxi owner was shot today (May 18) at 11.30am in the Road House parking lot at the corner of Tom Jones and Elston streets.

According to Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele, the witness, who is also a taxi owner and was with the deceased at the time, alleged: “They were waiting for someone to join them when the suspect approached on foot and started shooting. The witness jumped out and ran away, but the driver was fatally wounded.

“The suspect fled and jumped into an unknown getaway vehicle.

“Paramedics were summoned and the driver was certified dead on scene,” she said.

No one has been arrested and the police are appealing for information from the community that might assist to arrest the suspect.
