Temporary load-shedding relief as Eskom announces new schedule

The power utility has assured that its teams are ‘working around the clock’ to return offline units to service.

Eskom has announced that due to improvements in generation capacity, load-shedding will be suspended daily during off-peak periods.

As a result, stage 3 load-shedding will be implemented daily during the peak period of 16:00 until midnight.

According to the power utility, this pattern will be repeated daily until further notice, and Eskom says it will publish another update as soon as any significant changes occur.

“Breakdowns are currently at 16 056MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 2 407MW. Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Kriel and Majuba power stations were returned to service,” reads a statement by Eskom.

“In the same period, a generation unit each at Duvha, Hendrina, Kendal, Lethabo and Matla power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns. The further delays in returning to service a generating unit at Arnot, Camden and Hendrina power stations are contributing to the current capacity constraints. Eskom teams are working around the clock to return these generating units to service over the next few days.”
