Third Middelburg school closes due to virus outbreak

Hoërskool Middelburg has now also temporarily closed in an attempt to control the Covid-19 outbreak under learners and personnel following the closure of two others recently.

MIDDELBURG – Two high schools and one nursery school has been temporarily closed due to presumably a high number of Covid-19 cases and isolation or close-contact.

In a circular issued by Hoërskool Middelburg’s headmaster, Mr Johan Stronkhorst, it was confirmed that five staff members had tested positive while three awaited results and two others were in isolation.

The circular further mentioned that 151 learners tested positive while a significant number of other learners were in isolation.

It was therefore determined that the school would close from January 31 to February 7, under the directive of the circuit manager.

Recently, Hoër Tegniese Skool Middelburg and Gansiekeur nursery school also temporarily closed their doors.
