Three critical as accident causes mayhem on N2 near uMhlanga

Three vehicles were involved in a collision in KwaZulu-Natal, and one of them was pushed down an embankment.

Three people were critically injured in an accident on N2 (southbound) opposite Sunningdale on Wednesday afternoon.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said the accident involved a 14-wheeler truck, a bread truck and a light motor vehicle.

“The circumstances surrounding the accident are unclear at this stage. In the collision involving three vehicles, one of them, a bread truck, was pushed down a steep embankment and into a canal below. Three occupants of that vehicle had to be extricated and were transported to hospital in a critical condition.

“The driver of the 14-wheeler truck and the driver of the light motor vehicle escaped serious injury. As a result of the accident, traffic was brought to a standstill, and there is still a backlog stretching from as far back as the uMhlanga interchange,” he said.

In an accident last week in the same vicinity, two people were killed after two vehicles collided in a rear-end crash.
