Toilet trouble: Politicians’ faces on urinals ignite scandal in Sasolburg

A Sasolburg restaurant is in hot water for allegedly having images of politicians' faces in their urinals.

A storm is brewing in Sasolburg after a viral video surfaced on social media showing a restaurant restroom with urinals ‘decorated’ with the faces of four prominent political leaders.

In a 31-second clip that has set social media ablaze, a duo is seen inside a restroom where printed photos of EFF leader Julius Malema, President Cyril Ramaphosa, MKP founder Jacob Zuma, and ANC veteran Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma are pasted inside urinals.

“We just want to show you we’re drinking with the parliament here,” one of the men can be heard saying while filming.

The camera then pans across the urinals, revealing the photos of high-profile politicians.

“We got that guy there (Malema), we got our president, and we got this guy. And last but not least, we got this powerful woman here, also a Zuma,” the voice continues, pointing at each face in turn.

Matter reported to Human Rights Commission

The video has since ignited fury across political and social fields, with major parties calling for swift legal action and social justice groups demanding accountability.

According to sources, the incident took place at a well-known restaurant in Sasolburg.

An employee, believed to be the whistle-blower who reported the matter to the Human Rights Commission, has reportedly been dismissed from their job.

‘Affront to everything democracy stands for’ – municipality

The Metsimaholo Local Municipality has also weighed in.

In a statement, Mayor Jack Malindi condemned the act as ‘degrading, divisive, and racially charged’.

“This degrading act is not only deeply offensive but also an unprovoked attack on the dignity of our national leadership across political lines and a shameful display of racial contempt. It is an affront to everything our democracy stands for,” Malindi said.

“We cannot and must not, as a society, normalise or tolerate such disgusting and divisive behaviour. It erodes the hard-won unity we have fought for and undermines efforts to build a socially cohesive and inclusive nation,” warned Malindi.
