TotalSports Women’s Race cancelled
Organisers of the Totalsports Women’s Race have announced that the events scheduled to take place in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban on National Women’s Day, 9 August, have been cancelled.
The race is popular among Joburg’s women and each year more than 17 000 runners participate. They start in the the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown and run 5km or 10km around Joburg before returning to the square for the finish.
A statement from the organisers read,
“Adhering to the directive from Athletics South Africa (ASA) in response to the current state of the Covid-19 pandemic, a decision has been made to cancel the 2020 edition of the Totalsports Women’s Race. Entries for the events will therefore not open this year. We are thankful to each and every runner, our sponsors and suppliers for their unwavering support.
We look forward to welcoming back runners to South Africa’s largest Women’s Day Celebration in 2021.”
