Truck hijacked by two alleged EMPD officials

A truck loaded with liquor has been hijacked on Holfontein Road, Welgedacht Agricultural Holdings in Gauteng.

The driver of the truck and a colleague had been on their way to do a delivery on Tuesday, when they were stopped at the Springs Etwatwa turn off by the two alleged Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officials, Springs Advertiser reported.

Springs police spokesperson Captain Johannes Ramphora said the driver of the truck and his colleague were asked to get out of the truck.

It was believed the two officials wanted to check the truck for its fire extinguishers.

The so-called officials entered the truck, and drove off.

Investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident, four Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) traffic officials were arrested in connection with a truck hijacking.

After a high-speed chase, the four officials were arrested in De Deur in the south of Johannesburg in August, police said.
