Tshwane Metro employee among seven nabbed for cable theft in Marabastad
Seven people, including a Tshwane metro employee, were arrested in connection with stolen cables in Marabastad, Pretoria on Monday morning.
The arrests were made by police and Tshwane metro police, according to Pretoria Central police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.
“Information was received about people wearing Tshwane metro uniforms who were busy digging electricity cables out. Right next to them there was a parked Tshwane metro vehicle,” she said.
Upon their arrival, police arrested all seven people and a cable that is about 60 metres long was recovered.
Selepe said the suspects were expected to appear before the Pretoria magistrate’s court on charges of tampering with essential infrastructure and possession of copper cable.
“The vehicle used by the suspects was confiscated. Upon investigation, it was found that one of them works for the metro.”
Pretoria Central station commander Brigadier Moses Dladla said the damage on infrastructure, particularly on electricity and rail network, was “relentless”.
He applauded the team for their swift response.
