Tshwane metro police foil abduction of woman in Brooklyn

One of the suspects who forced a woman into a car was arrested, while one is still at large.

The Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) rescued an abducted woman after a high-speed chase in Brooklyn on Saturday.

The TMPD cable theft unit, while performing its duties, heard a commotion on Hazelwood Street in the east of Pretoria.

TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba says when the officers went to investigate, they saw two men forcing a woman into a car.

“The TMPD members tried to stop the vehicle but it fled at high speed. A chase ensued between the officers and the suspects,” he adds.

Mahamba says the suspects eventually stopped, got out of the vehicle and ran. The officers gave chase and apprehended one suspect.

“The victim confirmed to the officers that she was robbed of her cellphone and forced to give up her banking details.”

The vehicle was stolen in Mamelodi.

Mahamba says the vehicle’s number plates did not correspond with the licence disc.

He says the victim also notified officers that the suspects threw a firearm out of the vehicle’s window.

“Inside the vehicle, sets of number plates, five dummy bullets, and a firearm magazine were found.”
