Tshwane to obtain interdict against intimidating forum as waste services return

“Tshwane is now in the process of obtaining an interdict against so-called business forums seeking to intimidate and sabotage waste operations."

The announcement comes as a result of the metro appointing new waste service providers in Tshwane, who fell victim to intimidation and threats of violence, leading to service interruptions in waste collection.

Tshwane Department of Environment and Agriculture Management MMC Dana Wannenburg said the metro deployed members of the TMPD to support waste operations and protect landfill sites.

“Tshwane is now in the process of obtaining an interdict against so-called business forums seeking to intimidate and sabotage waste operations,” Wannenburg said.

“We will continue to work closely with the SAPS to ensure clear access to all depots and landfill sites, and will arrest any person or group of persons attempting to hamper our work.”

He said waste operations were slowly returning to normal across all regions and the metro had implemented a catch-up plan.

He said all areas scheduled for Monday and Tuesday collection will be serviced on Friday.

“Residents are requested to leave their bins outside so they are lifted.”

Wannenburg said should bins not be lifted, residents were requested to report the matter to customer care on 012 358 9999 or to customercare@tshwane.gov.za.

The following information should be included in the report:

  • Customer or account holder’s full name and surname, as on the COT utilities account
  • Account number
  • Full street address, suburb and region, as on the COT utilities account
  • Contact number and email address
  • Date not lifted

“We remain committed to providing quality services and apologise for any inconvenience.”
