Two arrested after body found in Mpumalanga shallow grave
Gauteng police have arrested two suspects following the discovery of a body that was buried in a shallow grave in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.
The body of a man identified by police as FR Loodts had been discovered after one of the suspects handed himself over to the police and confessed to the kidnapping and the killing.
Police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said two more suspects believed to be involved in the kidnapping were being sought.
“Police investigations revealed that the body of Mr Loodts had strangulation marks,” said Kweza.
“Police have recovered the victim’s stolen bakkie with the tools used to dig up the hole.”
She added one of the suspects Ben Leola (26) had appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court, where the case was postponed to January 15.
Loodts had disappeared on December 31 after attending a meeting at the single quarters at the Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria.
In a separate incident, an inquest docket has been opened by police after the naked body of a man was found on Margate beach in KwaZulu-Natal last week.
The body of the unidentified man believed to be in his 30s was found near a holiday flat by officers conducting foot patrols on the beach.
Police said there were no visible injuries on the man’s body.
