Two arrested for rape of 16-year-old girl in Pretoria

The two alleged rapists apparently found the girl sleeping in her bedroom when they gained access to her home.

Two men have been arrested in connection with a house robbery and rape that took place on Sunday in Pretoria.

The pair, aged 18 and 28, are alleged to have been involved in the rape of a 16-year-old girl they apparently found sleeping in her bedroom when they gained access to her home.

“Following that, they took a TV set and other valuable items before fleeing the scene on foot,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Tumisang Moloto.

“A family member who at the time was in her backroom shack, heard a scream and rushed to the house to investigate.”

Moloto said residents were alerted about the incident and immediately mobilised and contacted the police.

“Swift response led to the arrests of the suspects aged 18 & 28 shortly after the incident at Mamello Street in Extention 37,” he said.

The men were detained at Olivenhoutbosch Police Station for further police investigation. They will appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
