Two boys charged with murder of Western Cape man

The man was allegedly murdered after the minors had a confrontation with Herbertsdale residents.

Two boys, both aged 17, appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court recently on charges of murder after an attack on a 30-year-old man in Herbertsdale, near Mossel Bay.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp says investigations indicated the attack on the man took place on 4 August, at 22:00 in Skool Street.

According to reports, there was an altercation between the two minors and Herbertsdale residents, which led to the alleged assault with a panga on the victim. He was taken to Mossel Bay Provincial Hospital but died of his injuries on 6 August.

The boys have been in custody since their arrest and appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court again on Thursday.

The police investigating officer is WO Geoffrey Moos and information which could help in the case can be directed to him (044 606 5633).

Daniel Tintinger, principal of Herbertsdale Primary School, was the first to tell Mossel Bay Advertiser about the incident.

He noted that boys involved in the incident attended his school.

Tintinger said there was a drug abuse problem in Herbertsdale and it resulted in social ills.
