Two children among three killed in north accident

Five-month-old baby with critical injuries airlifted to hospital.

Three people were killed when the driver of a car lost control and it veered off the road on the N1 highway north.

A number of other people, including children, were injured.

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the driver of the vehicle lost control, causing the car to veer off the road. Of the three deceased, two were children – a boy and a girl – as well as a female adult.

“A five-month-old baby with critical injuries was airlifted to Steve Biko hospital,” Mabaso said.

“The injured also included a four-year-old child with critical injuries, six adults with critical injuries and six adults with moderate to serious injuries.”

The injured were taken to Steve Biko and Kalafong hospitals.

The N1 highway direction north between Zambezi Drive and Stormvoel Road was closed but has since been opened.
