Two dead, 13 injured in accident on N4, Sudwala

Two people were killed and 13 injured last night in a three-vehicle collision on the N4 near the Sudwala turn-off.

According to a statement by ER24, paramedics and other services arrived at the scene to find a truck, taxi, and light motor vehicle in the middle of the road.

Several people were found trapped inside the taxi while several more were found lying outside the three vehicles.

“Medics assessed the patients and found that one man trapped inside the taxi had succumbed to his numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for him, and he was declared dead,” said Russel Meiring, communications officer of ER24.

“Five others were in a critical condition, while nine had sustained minor to moderate injuries.

“Rescue services had to use specialised equipment to free the entrapped patients from the taxi. Once released, medics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions.”

Patients were transported by various services to nearby hospitals for urgent care.

On arrival at the hospital, however, another critically injured patient succumbed to their injuries and was declared dead. Local authorities were on the scene to investigate the cause of the collision.
