Two of the three suspects arrested for alleged business robbery
Two suspects aged 26 and 31 have been arrested for allegedly robbing a business and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in KwaMashu, Durban.
It is alleged the unidentified victim was at his tuck shop in J section, KwaMashu, when he was approached by three suspects at gunpoint yesterday at about 3pm.
They threatened him with a firearm and took an undisclosed amount of cash and airtime vouchers before they fled the scene on foot, police said.
Police responded immediately after the robbery was reported and managed to arrest two suspects with the help of the community.
The recovered firearm would be sent for ballistics tests to check if it had been used in any crime in the country, police said.
Police added the third suspect was still at large and were confident he would be arrested soon.
The arrested suspects are due to appear soon in the Ntuzuma Magistrates` Court to face charges of business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended KwaMashu police for working diligently and arresting the suspects.
“I am pleased with the successful arrest of the suspects and recovery of the unlicensed firearm,” said Ngobeni.
In a separate incident, three suspects were arrested following business robbery in Pretoria in December last year.
The unidentified men had allegedly stolen a BMW during a business robbery in Wonderboom, Pretoria.
Police spokesperson Captain Mack Mngomezulu said the car was fitted with a tracker when members of the Pretoria police dog unit and the tracker company followed up the signal.
It was alleged the car had been spotted parked with three occupants at the intersection of Snake Road and Heron streets.
