Two seriously injured in Pretoria skydiving incident

Two skydivers sustained serious injuries when they hit a tree during a tandem jump at a skydiving club at the Wonderboom Airport, north of Pretoria.

The incident happened on Sunday when a male instructor and female client were making their landing around 3pm, Rekord Centurion reported.

Advanced Paramedic Assist spokesperson Andy Gill said one of the patients had been airlifted by a Netcare 911 helicopter and taken to a hospital in Johannesburg.

The second patient was transported to a hospital in Pretoria by an APA ambulance.

Gill could not elaborate on the skydivers’ injuries, but said they were both in a serious condition and added it was not yet clear what had gone wrong during the landing.

In December, a flight instructor and his student died after a light aircraft crashed in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg.

It was believed the light aircraft had crashed into the side of a ridge shortly after taking off.

The two bodies were later taken to a Roodepoort mortuary for a postmortem.
