Two teachers shot and killed near Pretoria

The young teachers were shot and killed while they were a the house of one of their partners. 

Two female teachers from Lekgalong Primary School in Ga-Rankuwa, near Pretoria, were allegedly shot and killed on Monday afternoon.

Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, said the women, aged 26 and 27, were killed at the house of one of their partners, at around 15:00.

Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng MEC of Education expressed his frustrations towards the murders.

“We are devastated by this gruesome act of criminality that has taken the lives of two of our youngest and brightest educators.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and all affected members of the Lekgalong school community,” said Lesufi.

“The Gauteng Department of Education has extended psycho-social support to both the affected families and the school community,” Mabona said.

It was not made clear if anyone was arrested.

“Circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated by the police,” Mabona said.

Ga-Rankuwa police had yet to provide comment by time of publication.
