Update: 3 arrested after body found in shallow grave in Ladysmith

Employees of an unregistered private security company face murder charges after a missing-person investigation led detectives to a shallow grave.

KZN police have arrested three suspects, aged between 34 and 44, following the discovery of a dead body in Burma Road, Ladysmith, reports Northern Natal News.

The gruesome discovery came in the wake of a 37-year-old man being reported missing on Wednesday, October 21.

Police issued an appeal to the public for help in locating the then missing person on Tuesday this week (October 27).

The body was discovered the next day, leading to an intensive investigation by police.

First suspect arrested on Wednesday

The first suspect was arrested on Wednesday (October 28). According to police, two additional suspects were arrested yesterday. The suspects appeared in court today (October 30).

Suspects linked to unregistered private security company

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo, “The suspects are employees of a private security company which, upon investigation, was found to be operating without registering with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).”

Detectives led to shallow grave where victim was buried

Ngcobo continued that investigations revealed that the deceased was allegedly taken by the suspects to the premises, where he was killed. The detectives were led to a shallow grave where the deceased had been buried. The three suspects were subsequently charged with murder.

Forensic personnel from out of town are expected to use Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology to see if more bodies are buried at the premises.
