MEC for Infrastructure Development, Jacob Mamabolo has confirmed that three firefighters died while battling a burning building in the CBD, North Eastern Tribune reports.
Earlier today, one firefighter died after falling from the 23rd floor while trying to extinguish the flames of the fire burning at the Gauteng Provincial Health Department.
A further three firefighters were trapped inside, and were later rescued and taken to a hospital.
Initially, MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun, had said that there are a further three firefighters trapped inside the burning building. A firefighting team is reportedly trying to assist them.

Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi, has confirmed that the emergency services are currently at the scene of the burning building in the Joburg CBD.
Mulaudzi added that a number of people who work in the building were treated for smoke inhalation.
The building is located on the corner of Sauer and Albertina Sisulu streets and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
