Update: Manhunt for escapees from George Prison continues

Two men, wanted for various crimes, are still on the loose after escaping from a prison in George.

The manhunt for the two men who escaped from the George Prison yesterday morning continues.

The two awaiting trial prisoners, Calisto Caderek (32) and Trevor Moliwa (37), escaped from the prison in the early hours of the morning by allegedly cutting their way through the bars in one of the bathrooms in the holding cells.

Chaderek is a Zimbabwean citizen who was in custody on charges of housebreaking and theft, while Moliwa, a South African, was in custody on charges of possession of a firearm and possession of stolen items.

Candice van Reenen, spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) said the department is working closely with the police and has launched a joint activation order within the cluster to ensure that the escapees are apprehended.

Sergeant Chris Spies, Southern Cape police spokesperson, said the George detective branch is investigating the circumstances under which the prisoners escaped.

The community is asked to keep an eye out for the escapees and to contact the George detectives on 044 803 4732, with any information.
