UPDATE: Pick n Pay denies chicken foot boerewors pic

Supermarket giant Pick n Pay has distanced itself from the image of a chicken foot sticking out of a boerewors packet, allegedly bought at one of its stores, went viral on social media this week.

A customer, Priscilla Beukes, took the image after she apparently bought the boerewors from a store in Hillcrest, east of Pretoria.

“Never again will we buy meat stuff from there ever again. It’s most disgusting,” she captioned the image.

In a statement, Pick n Pay said it investigated the matter soon after it was made aware of Beukes’ claims. Beukes was contacted and even given a refund.

“We investigated this immediately and we can confirm that no chicken, including chicken feet, is used in making boerewors.”

“Any meat going into boerewors would have gone through a mincer. Based on our investigations we do not believe that the product left our store in the way shown in the photograph,” the statement read.
