URC leaders Leinster lash Bulls

The Irish team Leinster remains at the top of the Vodacom URC logs after beating the Bulls in Dublin.

The Vodacom Bulls surrendered a narrow half-time lead as Leinster fought back to claim a bonus-point win in a top-of-the-table clash in Dublin on Friday night.

Leading 14-12 at half time, the Bulls conceded five tries in the second 40 minutes while brothers Harry and Ross Byrne kicked 12 points between them in a 47-14 victory for Leinster at the RDS Arena.

With the result, the Irish outfit remains top of the Vodacom URC standings, while Jake White’s charges are still in second place but now nine points off the summit with five rounds left before the playoffs.

Three penalties from flyhalf Johan Goosen and a try from winger Kurt-Lee Arendse powered the visitors in front, after a Harry Byrne conversion and tries from flanker Josh van der Flier and hooker Ronan Kelleher kept the hosts – who lost skipper Luke McGrath to the sin bin for 10 minutes for a dangerous tackle on Arendse – within touching distance at the break.

Veteran wing James Lowe and replacement prop Michael Milne crossed the whitewash soon after the restart, with Byrne on target from the kicking tee, before Dan Sheehan, Jack Conan and Liam Turner dotted down in the final quarter as Leinster completed an emphatic win.

To add to the Bulls’ woes, Arendse had his second try of the match chalked off for foul play in the buildup, and White’s men will now refocus to tackle Lyon next Saturday in the last 16 of the Champions Cup at Loftus Versfeld.
