Vehicle catches fire in Kruger National Park

An investigation into the cause of an accident in the Kruger National Park is underway.

What should have been a peaceful breakaway to the Kruger National Park (KNP) on Heritage Day turned into a life-threatening event for four visitors.

Lowvelder reports that South African National Parks (SANParks) says a vehicle veered off a road near Tshokwane Picnic Site in the southern part of the park in the late afternoon on Wednesday.

It landed in a ditch and caught fire.

SANParks suspects that the driver might have lost control of the vehicle.

All four occupants sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

KNP spokesperson Reynold Thakhuli confirmed that the vehicle will be removed today.

SANParks wished the victims a speedy and full recovery.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
