Video: 2 killed in shoot-out with police in Mariannhill

Durban cops pounced on a house in Luganda where a group suspected of being involved in criminal activity lived.

Two people were shot dead in a shoot-out with police in Mariannhill, Durban, earlier today.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker says police received information from the community that a group who were involved in criminality in the area, were living in a house in Luganda.

Naicker explains information also revealed that the men were in possession of firearms.

According to him, police officers from Marianhill approached the house and requested entry from the suspects at around 03:00.

“The occupants of the home opened fire at the police officers through the windows and there was an exchange of gunfire. Both suspects who are in their 20s, who were in the house, were fatally wounded in the shoot-out. Two 9mm pistols were found in the suspects’ possession.”

Naicker says police are investigating charges of attempted murder, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as an inquest.
