Five people were killed in a horrific accident in Cato Ridge on Sunday morning.

According to ALS paramedics, a single vehicle collided with a drain and left the roadway.

One person was found in critical condition and was rushed to a hospital in Pietermaritzburg for further medical care. The five deceased were all declared dead on the scene.

The accident occurred just after 06:00 on Eddie Hagen Drive.

ALS Paramedics’ Garrith Jamieson, whose team attended to the scene, said a family of six was leaving the Cato Ridge area to transport their family member to a hospital after they had been stabbed.

“All six family members had serious injuries. The family member who had been stabbed died on scene along with four other family members.
