Video: 8 injured after taxi ploughs into KZN toll plaza
Reports from the scene indicate the taxi avoided colliding with two overtaking cars in convoy, causing the accident.
A taxi loaded with passengers crashed into an Umvoti toll plaza booth in KZN at around midday, leaving eight people injured.
According to medical personnel who were on the scene, patients were treated before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care. Injuries range from minor to moderate.
Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst said: “It is alleged two overtaking cars driving in convoy had forced the taxi to swerve to avoid a collision, resulting in it crashing into the booth.”
According to Herbst, the convoy was transporting a VIP and accompanying armed men could be seen monitoring the scene after the collision.
Meanwhile in a separate collision in a different part of the country, a number of children were reportedly injured in a serious crash at an infamous intersection in Randfontein.

At least two vehicles, that includes a minibus that was reportedly transporting school children, were involved in the crash. The number of injuries are yet to be confirmed.
