VIDEO: Actor Meshack Mavuso escapes hijacking

A calm Sunday evening turned into a terrifying ordeal for former Isidingo star Meshack Mavuso, who was a victim of an attempted hijacking in front of a friend’s house in Buccleuch on June 7.

Mavuso arrived at his friend, ANC branch chairperson Mike Maile’s home, at 7pm when two armed men in a black Polo VW approached his vehicle in an attempted hijacking, Sandton Chroniclereported.

In the video one of the attackers walks around the car and opens the passenger door. The video also shows Mavuso being forced out of the vehicle with his keys in his hand.

“As they were beating me with their guns, I just thought, I don’t know if it was bravery or stupidity, and then I threw the key inside Mike’s yard,” Mavuso told eNCA.

“I ran in front of the car and went on the other side of Mike’s house. They fired two shots and then left.”

Although physically unharmed, reports state that Mavuso is dealing with the psychological trauma and, with the help of Maile, will be offering a reward for information that will lead to the arrest of the hijackers, who they suspect operate around Buccleuch.

Maile said they were offering the reward to prevent others from being hijacked by the same criminals. He added his family has been severely traumatised by the attack, since he was outside in the yard making his way to the gate when the shots were fired.

Mavuso rose to fame in the late 90s with his role on the controversial teen drama Yizo-Yizo. He is more widely known for his former role as Vusi Moletsane on the SABC soap Isidingo.
