The death toll from a serious accident on the N2 in KZN has risen to six, with the truck driver having been found yesterday afternoon.

The lifeless body of the truck driver involved in a fatal crash on the N2 northbound near Amatikulu River bridge yesterday morning was located by the afternoon, bringing the death toll to six.

While the Road Traffic Inspectorate and emergency services were on scene, the body of the driver was found trapped in the truck that was loaded with sugar. The jaws of life were used to extricate the body from the vehicle, Zululand Observer reports.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC of Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma has expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

He said that based on initial reports from RTI, the truck slammed into a light motor vehicle and pushed it to the side of the road. The truck then overturned and crushed the light motor vehicle into pieces.
