Video: Durban police seize R37m in counterfeit goods
Five suspects were arrested after police raided several shops and seized counterfeit goods and cash.
Police in Durban confiscated counterfeit high-end clothing items worth over R37m during an operation conducted in the Durban CBD yesterday morning.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says a team that deals with contraband, counterfeit and illicit goods gathered intelligence that shops on Dr Prixley kaSeme Street in the Point area of Durban were selling counterfeit goods.
“Police obtained search warrants for several shops which were raided yesterday, leading to the recovery and seizure of the counterfeit clothing items, watches and other big brand items,” he says.
Police also seized R200 000 in cash, he says.
“Five suspects were arrested and will appear in court.”
Netshiunda says the suspects are foreign nationals and their status in the country is yet to be confirmed.
