Video: Ekurhuleni police arrest 2 in R9m truck-jacking case
A teenager and his stepfather were arrested after suspected stolen items were found inside a hijacked truck in their yard.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) recovered stolen goods worth R9m at a property in an east of Pretoria settlement.
Spokesperson Constable Marie Mashishi says police, following a tip-off, pounced on a Mamelodi home on Monday and arrested a 19-year-old and his stepfather (57).
She says the sting operation resulted from a tip-off about a suspicious white Mercedes-Benz truck parked on Malaka Street.
According to Mashishi, goods worth R9m were found inside the truck, which was reported as being hijacked in Kempton Park two weeks ago.
She says the youth was interrogated at the scene.
“The house occupant, who alleged that the truck belongs to his stepfather, allowed officers to search the truck and a variety of new motor vehicle parts were found.”
As police were combing the area, the stepfather arrived. He was also arrested, says Mashishi.
The two, who face charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle and stolen goods, were taken to the Mamelodi West Police Station, and are expected to appear in court soon.

The truck and goods were confiscated and taken to the police station for further investigation.
Mashishi says police expect to make more arrests in the case soon.
