VIDEO: Grade 8 pupil allegedly bullied by classmates
A high school in Kempton Park, on the East Rand is currently investigating an apparent bullying incident following the emergence of a cellphone video showing a female pupil seemingly being harassed by her schoolmates.
The school`s principal, David Morris said he wanted to meet with the grade 8 learner and her mother in an attempt to identify the perpetrators after the video was sent to the alleged victim, Kempton Express reported.
In the video, the Hoërskool Jeugland girl can be seen lying on her arms at her desk while being continuously harassed by fellow learners. She eventually sits up, wipes her face and holds her head.
“A disciplinary hearing will be conducted after which steps will be taken against these learners. I want to make the life of such offenders in my school unbearable,” added Morris.

According to the mother of the victim, the incident took place on Wednesday. Her daughter forwarded the video to her after she had received it.
“I just want people to realise what this is doing to kids – what my daughter and other children are going through. It is terrible. Schools have to be more aware of these bullies and expel them. Why are they putting up with these hooligans?” she said.
Meanwhile, Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane said the department had been made aware of the incident. She reiterated the department condemned all instances of bullying in schools.
Speaking to The Citizen last month, education expert Graeme Bloch said instances of school bullying captured on video were likely to cause even more suffering and humiliation to victims.
“This is a modernised world, so learners have access to the internet which makes it easy for them to capture such incidents on cellphones and upload them to the internet,” he said.
“Bullying in schools is unacceptable and should be stopped by parents and teachers. It is hateful and expresses violence,” he added.
