VIDEO: Irate Zuma supporters create havoc across Durban

Motorists have been warned to avoid Umgeni Road, heading into Durban, after the road was blocked by protesters this morning, Friday, July 9.

It is believed the protest action across Durban is linked to the incarceration of former president Jacob Zuma.

Protest action is still highly volatile along Umgeni Road in Durban.

According to Andreas Mathios of Marshall Security, authorities are on scene and motorists are being requested to turn around at the Alpine Road intersection.

The protest action had turned violent, with protesters burning rubble and stoning vehicles, said Mathios.

The N2, after the Sibaya off-ramp, he said, was also still affected by protest action.

Protesters have reportedly set tyres alight on the roadway, and all lanes have been blocked.

He urged the public to avoid the area.

“We are asking members of the public to stay off Umgeni Road in both directions just after Makro,” said Mathios.

There have also been reports alleging that cars are being stoned along the N3, by the Pavillion Shopping Centre, and that protesters attempted to petrol bomb a truck.

The N2, southbound just before the M7, is also believed to be blocked by protesters who are burning debris on the roadway.
