Video: Lower Sabie Rest Camp fire contained
Visitors to the Kruger Natal Park rest camp are advised to stock up on essentials ahead of arrival, while accommodation and safari activities continue unaffected.
A fire that broke out today at the Lower Sabie Rest Camp retail centre has been successfully contained, reports Lowvelder.
According to SANParks’ general manager for media and stakeholder relations, Rey Thakhuli, the restaurant was not damaged, but will remain closed due to power interruptions caused by the fire.
He said temporary retail and food and beverage services will be introduced as soon as possible to assist visitors.

“Guests with bookings at the camp are advised to stock up on supplies before arrival, or obtain essentials such as firewood, ice and groceries at Skukuza, Crocodile Bridge, Satara, Tshokwane or Nkuhlu,” Thakhuli said.
He confirmed that accommodation facilities were not affected and the camp is fully booked for the upcoming two long weekends on April 27 and May 1.
Activities such as guided game drives and walking safaris will continue as normal.
SANParks has urged visitors to avoid the damaged area for safety reasons.
