VIDEO: Man shot dead during armed robbery

Police in Middelburg, Mpumalanga have positively linked a suspect to the murder of a man killed during an armed robbery that was caught on CCTV footage inside the Eastdene Liquor store.

ukesh Ranchod, who worked at Heavy Feather, was shot and killed at point blank range last Wednesday at the liquor outlet where his wife Darshala worked, Middleburg Observer reported.

In the video, the armed suspects are seen ordering the victims to the back of the store. As the victims are walking, Ranchod is seen standing in between the shelves, where the suspect shoots him in the upper body, after which Ranchod falls down. He died on the scene.

Business associate Ian Minnaar of Heavy Feather said the deceased was the son-in-law of Bob Dajie, well-known Middelburg businessman and owner of the liquor store.

“Ranchod was shot for nothing. He was cooperating with the robbers and unarmed. However, he had a problem with his knees, so he couldn’t lie down as ordered by the robbers,” added Minnaar.

Middelburg police detective Colonel Fiela Mahlangu said police would today question the suspect, as he was positively linked to the murder of Ranchod.

Investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident, a businessman was shot and killed by armed suspects during a business robbery in Pretoria West in March.

According to police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango, three armed men entered a motor spares shop in Pretoria West and demanded money from the cashier.

“She gave them an undisclosed amount of money. The owner, however, was outside when he noticed what happened. He walked into the store and came across the armed men,” Msimango.

Upon noticing the firearms, the owner reportedly tried to walk back out of the shop. Msimango said the robbers then stopped the owner, who told them he was just a customer, before shooting him in the back. He died on the scene.
