VIDEO: Ocean Basket owner and mom murder case postponed to next week
Two men implicated in the murder of Ocean Basket owner, Lizette Deacon and her mother, Hettie appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today and their case was postponed to next week.
Masses gathered outside the courthouse earlier today to protest against the ongoing scourge of gender-based violence crimes in the city and surrounding areas, calling for justice to take it’s course.
One of the organisers of the protest, James van den Bergh told Review Online that residents are tired of the ongoing crime in the city and surrounding areas. “Enough is enough, we need to take a stand against these these criminals.”
The deceased, Lizette and Hettie were attacked and abducted from their townhouse in Welgelegen on Thursday afternoon.
A manhunt was launched, police gave chase and one suspect was forced off the road along the R37 road between Polokwane and Lebowakgomo.
The suspect fled on foot and the bodies of the women were found in the vehicle. Both women had sustained several stab wounds.
The two suspects, both Zimbabwean nationals, were arrested on Sunday, in Mookgophong and Polokwane, respectively. The two men face charges of murder and house robbery.
Today in court they were remanded in custody and their case postponed to Friday, 25 September.
