VIDEO: Suspect arrested after stealing police van

A 25-year old suspect has been arrested after allegedly stealing a police vehicle in George in the Western Cape.

In the video, the wreckage of the police van can be seen off the road, with paramedics and police on the scene.

George police reportedly informed Riversdale and Heidelberg police of the incident. A roadblock was set up outside Heidelberg on the N2, where the suspect refused to stop and caused a major accident involving two other police vehicles and a truck earlier today, George Herald reported.

The suspect was transported to Riversdale Hospital for observation. No fatal injuries were reported.

In a separate incident, a man suspected to have stolen a car in Parktown, Johannesburg was arrested last month. The man was arrested after a high-speed chase from the M1 in Booysens, said Inspector Edna Mamonyane.
