Video: Two arrested after high-speed chase in Pretoria
A shootout occurred between TMPD officers and three men, and one of the men managed to evade arrest.
Tshwane metro police arrested two men after a high-speed chase in the east of Pretoria on Tuesday.
One of the men arrested was wounded in the incident that occurred at around 22:00.
“While patrolling in Lynwood Road, TMPD officers spotted a suspicious Honda vehicle with three men inside,” says metro police spokesperson senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.
“They tried to stop the vehicle, but it sped off. The officers then gave chase and called for backup. The officers managed to catch up to the vehicle in Nellmapius near Solomon Mahlangu Drive.”
Mahamba says during the chase a suspect took out a firearm, but the officers returned fire, leaving him wounded.
He adds two suspects were apprehended while the third one evaded arrest.
“Their vehicle was searched and the officers found housebreaking equipment,” says Mahamba.
He adds that it was also found that the vehicle had been stolen.
“The suspects [will likely] face charges for possession of a stolen vehicle, housebreaking equipment and an unlicensed firearm. The injured suspect was taken to a hospital under police custody.”
