The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has concluded the deportation of the 95 Libyan nationals who were arrested at the Milites Dei Security Services training centre outside White River in Mpumalanga on July 26.

The men are scheduled to leave South Africa for Libya from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) today. According to a statement by the DHA, the flight has been funded by the Libyan government.

The men were transported by DHA immigration services trucks to the airport from early this morning to board the CemAir flight.

The South African minister for home affairs, Leon Schreiber, commanded the department to act swiftly in the deportation processes, which started on Thursday when the criminal charges against the men, namely contravention of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002, were withdrawn.

“I commend the DHA officials and other law enforcement officers who worked tirelessly to ensure an expeditious deportation. We will continue to deploy all resources at our disposal to ensure the country’s immigration laws are respected and observed,” Schreiber said.
