Police officers are searching for clues at an active crime scene in Klaarwater, after a ward councillor was shot and killed this afternoon (August 6), reports Rising Sun Chatsworth.

In a statement SAPS said the information available at this stage suggests that the deceased was in his office with several community members when an unknown man arrived and allegedly posed as someone who needed assistance from the deceased.

“The deceased reportedly went outside to assist the man when the suspect withdrew a firearm and shot him several times,” read the statement.

According to the statement, the councillor died at the scene and the suspect fled on foot.
