Watch: Argentina add salt to Blitzbok wounds

The Springbok Sevens’ Hong Kong fight ended with a whimper on Sunday after Argentina handed South Africa a fourth successive defeat at the tournament.

The Blitzboks led 12-7 in the last two minutes of the fifth-place semi-final clash between the southern-hemispheric rivals, before two late tries from the Argentinians marked the close of a disappointing opening leg of the World Sevens Series for SA and new coach Sandile Ngcobo.

It was 7-5 at half time, Impi Visser pulling a try back for the Blitzboks on the buzzer after five minutes of defending from the South Africans, Matías Osadczuk having coasted over the line to open the scoring.

Argentina were a man down at the start of the second half – Agustín Fraga yellow-carded for going off his feet at the breakdown before the break – and Blitzbok skipper Siviwe Soyizwapi seized the advantage when he finished off under the posts.

But, Augustin Moyano exploited space in the left corner, after Visser was sin-binned for a deliberate knock on, before Tomas Lizano brushed off Branco du Preez to dot down as Argentina completed an incredible 19-12 comeback win.
