Mthokozisi, a father of four children, was not part of the protest and had left the house in the morning to visit a clinic in Braamfontein when the shooting occurred.
The family of Mthokozisi Ntumba is left heartbroken and shattered following his tragic death.
Mthokozisi was shot and killed during student fees protests in Braamfontein on Wednesday.
Minister of police Gen Bheki Cele, Gauteng police commissioner Lt-Gen Elias Mawela and other officials visited Mthokozisi’s family in Croydon on Thursday morning.
In his own words in response to what happened, Cele said: “I can’t explain it, it has no grain of explanation and defence on it. Somebody, for me, just went crazy.”
Mthokozisi was not part of the protest and had left the house in the morning to visit a clinic in Braamfontein when the shooting occurred.
Mthokozisi was a father of four, with the youngest being eight months old.
“It was shocking and devastating for us to find out about his death on the news and receiving calls afterwards and connecting the two,” said an emotional Sthembiso Jwara, Mthokozisi’s cousin.
Mthokozisi Ntumba was working for the Department of Human Settlements. He just got his masters degree. He was husband. He was a father of three. He was shot and killed in broad daylight.

“With the information and facts we have, we feel hard-done by the police service that is supposed to protect us.”
Jwara also told Express that although they appreciate the gesture of the minister, they expect justice to be served.
The family is devastated.
