Sports minister Nathi Mthethwa was booed by sections of the crowd at Banyana Banyana’s homecoming after he said they are claiming the victory because they worked for it as a government.

The government held a celebration of sporting excellence on Tuesday morning to welcome back the recently crowned Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions.

At the event, Mthethwa was subjected to jeers and boos from fans in attendance, clearly not agreeing with the minister “claiming” Banyana’s triumph.
