Watch: Deputy minister pledges justice after Germiston Home Affairs fire
Mobile units have been set up to keep essential Home Affairs services running in Germiston after the arson attack.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Njabulo Nzuza has pledged that the state will pursue those responsible for the recent attack on the Germiston Home Affairs offices with the full might of the law.
Germiston City News reports that Nzuza visited the fire-damaged building, walked through the charred remains to assess the extent of the destruction, and met with officials on the ground.
Preliminary reports indicate that the blaze, which engulfed the offices on August 12, was deliberately started, causing severe disruption to services.
Speaking during his visit, the deputy minister assured residents that justice will be served.
“We will ensure that the criminals behind this incident are brought to book,” Nzuza said.

To maintain service delivery, Nzuza announced the deployment of mobile Home Affairs stations at the Germiston Civic Centre parking lot.
These units will assist residents with smart ID and passport applications, among other essential services.
In addition to the mobile units, members of the public can also visit the Alberton, Kempton Park and Edenvale Home Affairs offices for assistance.
The deputy minister emphasised that these contingency plans are aimed at minimising inconvenience to residents while repairs and investigations are underway.
The government has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on public resources and the rights of citizens.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to help bring the perpetrators to justice.
