Watch: Fire at South African Breweries Johannesburg depot contained

A fire at the SAB depot in Southgate was contained today by firefighters, with no injuries reported and the main structure left unharmed.

A fire that broke out at the outdoor crate storage area of the South African Breweries (SAB) depot on Baragwanath Road in Southgate, Johannesburg, has been successfully contained, the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) has confirmed.

According to Alberton Record, the fire started yesterday.

No casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Thanks to the swift response of EMS firefighting crews, the main structure on the premises was not affected.

“We commend the bravery and professionalism of our firefighters, who worked tirelessly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other areas of the premises. Their efforts have ensured that the damage is minimal, and we can breathe a sigh of relief that no one was hurt.” says City of Johannesburg EMS media liaison officer Xolile Khumalo.

Firefighting crews remain on scene, conducting salvage and damping down operations to ensure there are no flare-ups and that the area is fully secured.

The City of Johannesburg EMS is working closely with SAB officials to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the damage.
