A video showing community members working together to steal money lying on the road has gone viral.
Dozens of people rushed to the scene of a cash-in-transit (CIT) van bombing in Roodekop in Germiston, Gauteng, yesterday afternoon to fill their pockets with loot.
An undisclosed number of suspects bombed a CIT van on the R554/Heidelberg Road, underneath the N3 bridge, using explosives to access the cash. They then fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
The intersection was closed for police to examine the scene.

The SAPS sent a stern warning to community members not to loot at CIT scenes. This constitutes crimes of theft and defeating the ends of justice. They added that CIT heist crime scenes are dangerous, particularly when explosives are used, and members of the public who go to the incident can contaminate the scene and hamper investigations.
