Watch: KZN court cheers as former cop sentenced for double murder

A former SAPS sergeant was sentenced for murdering her husband and his friend, with the court gallery erupting in cheers at the verdict.

The High Court gallery in Mtubatuba erupted in loud cheers and applause today as a convicted former SAPS sergeant was sentenced to life for the 2023 murder of her husband.

According to Zululand Observer, Judge Robin Massop also sentenced Ntombizodwa Ntinga (44) to life for the murder of her husband’s friend, Mpendulo Mdluli, an outcome welcomed with equal excitement.

For robbery with aggravating circumstances, Ntinga, who stood in the dock with her head bowed and wiped a tear during sentencing, was sentenced to 15 years, while she received five years each for the kidnappings of her husband and Mdluli.

Massop ruled that these sentences would run concurrently.

Ntinga’s co-accused, Samkelo Mpanza (22), was sentenced to 25 years each for the murders, 14 years for robbery, and four years each for the kidnappings of Ntinga and Mdluli.

Mpanza’s sentence will also run concurrently.
