Watch: Leopard sighting near Middelburg

A family captured a predator sighting on video during a holiday game drive in the De Voetpadkloof.

A family visiting De Voetpadkloof near Middelburg got the leopard sighting they missed in Kruger National Park on Wednesday (September 30) reports Middelburg Observer.

The guests spotted the leopard at about 14:00 near the bush camp and managed to capture the sighting on video.

According to Mellissa Myburgh of De Voetpadkloof, the family had visited Kruger National Park during the school holidays but had not seen a leopard.

While on the game drive at De Voetpadkloof, one of the guests joked about their luck.

“We were in Kruger Park and didn’t see a leopard. Imagine we see one here at De Voetpadkloof.”

“They had barely said it when they spotted the leopard,” said Myburgh.

Leopard hunts baboons

It is not the first leopard sighting at De Voetpadkloof in recent weeks.

About six weeks ago, guests came across a leopard near the waterfall at the end of one of the hiking trails. The leopard was hunting a group of baboons.

“The guests were so shocked. The leopard stalked the baboons and killed one within seconds,” said Myburgh.

The Loskop Valley is home to a variety of wildlife, including wildlife including, rhinos, giraffes and several bird species.

However, it was the spotted cat that stole the show this time.
