The Ndlovu Youth Choir keeps reaching for the stars… This time, with its awe-inspiring version of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody in isiZulu.

Just released, their electrifying rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody has already made headlines in London, with The Times reporting ‘Bohemian Rhapsody in Zulu? Freddie Mercury would approve’.

“Over a year and a half in the making, reimagining one of the greatest and most complex songs of all time has been a truly unforgettable experience for us,” the Ndlovu Youth Choir posted on Facebook.

“The heartfelt homage of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen imagines what the song might have sounded like if Freddie Mercury’s musical journey had never left Africa, the continent of his birth.

“We are incredibly honoured to be the first officially approved, commercially released version of this beautiful and iconic song,” it added.

According to SA Music News and Entertainment, it was approved by Queen’s surviving members, Brian May and Roger Taylor.

Choir Master Ralf Schmitt expressed the collective excitement of the group: “Securing the rights to perform and record Bohemian Rhapsody has been a long and patient journey. Many role players around the world working together to make this dream possible. The choir is thrilled to share this very special version with audiences everywhere.

“To have the blessing of Brian May and Roger Taylor is an immense honour. We cannot wait for the world to hear it,” he told SA Music and Entertainment.

The choir’s rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody was released just in time for its 2025 Heritage Tour to towns and cities nationwide.
