WATCH: Prayer vigil for boy (6) found dumped in Joburg, two women in custody

A grieving community has come together to pray following the death of Ryan Mutinzi, whose body was found dumped in a bag in Bellavista, Joburg.

Residents hosted a community prayer vigil for the six-year-old boy after his body was discovered dumped in a bag in Bellavista on April 22. On the same day as the prayer vigil, two women appeared in court in connection with his murder.

Mutinzi’s family and people from all walks of life, including Ward 55 councillor Rashieda Landison, came together yesterday to remember him. White flowers had been carefully positioned around photos of the boy, alongside other messages, bouquets and candles.

Two women have been arrested after members from the Booysens Serious and Violent Unit followed up on information since the discovery of the body of a child.

The suspects briefly appeared in Booysens Magistrate’s Court on April 29 and the case was moved to Westgate Magistrate’s Court.

The women were charged with murder and defeating the ends of justice. They will remain in custody until their next court appearance on May 6 when they are expected to apply for bail.
